Nature Diary ... New Bird Feeders
Having watched so much bird food being consumed by bigger birds which thus leaves very little lfor the smaller birds, whilst also frightening them away, I made a decision to buy 3 much smaller feeders, each approximately 13cm in height and 10 cm in diameter.
So far the one purpose built for fat balls seems to be the most popular (centre photo) and hasn't been seen being used by the big birds who are still feeding on the original feeders which are hanging elsewhere.
These new, smaller feeders are placed discreetly in trees and are not so easy for the large birds to reach, and the tree branches give more protection for the little, more vulnerable birds.
