Reichstag

One of my 'bucketlist' visits today: to see the Reichstag building - an iconic German building but with a British contemporary twist thanks to the work of Norman Foster.

The dome visit is fantastic (and free! - we reserved our tickets earlier in the day at a kiosk nearby). We went just before dusk so that we could see a sunset if there was one (there wasn't, at least not one that penetrated the rainclouds) and then see Berlin at night. The views up and down inside the dome are amazing.

Earlier, while it was still relatively sunny and dry, we had walked along the bank of the Spree all the way down to the Reichstag. We went to a museum housed in a former wartime bunker that told the story of the rise of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party. It was raining when we came out so we then sheltered in a bakery/coffee shop while planning other things to do, including visiting my cousin Max and his family.

Ate in a Korean vegetarian restaurant. Ended the day with drinks in our hotel's bar, which is warm and friendly.
