Loving Madrid

We went for a wander around the streets on our way to the Museo Nacional del Prado.  The buildings are wonderful, just so beautiful, especially against a deep blue sky.  As we approached the museum entrance we were stopped by a woman who introduced herself and asked if we would like a guided tour.  We decided it was probably a good idea as one tends to wander aimlessly around museums and galleries.  As we’re of a certain age, we were able to get half-price tickets.  It was worth having the guide, as she took us to all the highlights and explained the paintings in detail.  It was very interesting to have the perspective.  After we’d finished at the museum we started walking back to our hotel by a different route and stopped for a drink and a shared sandwich at Plaza Santa Anna. On reaching our hotel we succumbed more or less to the Spanish way of having an afternoon siesta.

After a relaxing couple of hours we set off for the La Latina district, which is a very popular area for tapas.  We were gobsmacked at how full all the restaurants and cafés were.  It was good to see them so busy and to see people out enjoying themselves.  We eventually found a small establishment where we enjoyed a selection of tapas with a glass of wine and indulged in some people watching.  We will definitely return to this area before we leave.

I am way, way behind responding to lovely comments and dipping into blippers’ journals.  There hasn’t been much spare time.  Apologies if I don’t catch up for a while.

The main blip and the extras show a selection of things that caught my eye as we walked around.  The Museo del Jamon was very interesting, even though we only poked our noses in the door.  I’ve added to my collection of photos of doors.
