Sgwarnog: In the Field

Walk

The players and officials walk out for the final of the Bradford & District FA Cup at the ground of Eccleshill United.

Bradford United (red) were newly formed for 2022-23 with a merger of Toller and Phoenix football clubs. Calverley United (green), while technically from over the border in Leeds, are showing their deeper historical ties to Bradford before local government boundary changes rudely evicted them. Both teams play in the Supreme Division of the Yorkshire Amateur Football League, which is one of the county leagues that together form the top tier of amateur football (as distinct from semi-pro, which sits higher) in England.

As the higher placed team in the league, Bradford started the game as favourites, and they lived up to the that by taking an early lead and adding a second by half-time. Calverley got one back, but a third for Bradford sealed the cup. I couldn’t really get into a good spot for a picture of the presentation, but my extra will give a bit a flavour.
