Norwich

Today we did another thing that has been on our list for some time, we visited the city of Norwich for the first time. It took just over an hour to get there, and we stopped along the way so I could get more photos of yellow rapeseed fields (I love them!)

Norwich is a beautiful little city, and claims to be the most complete medieval city in the UK. It is well known for its medieval cathedral, which was started in 1096. It has the second largest cloisters and the second tallest spire in England (only exceeded by Salisbury cathedral). We took turns to go inside the cathedral as we had Xena with us. It is exquisite inside. We wandered around the cobbled streets of Elm Hill, with its half timbered buildings and many medieval lanes. We walked around the Tombland area, once a Saxon marketplace, where we had a coffee. We had a light lunch at Giggling Squid and then wandered up to the large market area, which is the largest open air market in the country.

It was a good day out and well worth visiting.

Tonight I have a camera club committee meeting, thankfully it is held on zoom so I can attend it from here in Norfolk. Although we hoped to stay for the week we are going home tomorrow as Gavin has a dinner and meeting he cannot miss - but we are coming back on Friday.
