Aquamarine/Nanna K's Day

Book Club Outlook

Lucky us to have a nice day and a lovely deck to sit on with this view off to the right (north).  The hostess had to be out of town at the last minute but 3 of us showed up with cake and gifts for Margot …in back of the cake….who turned 85 yesterday! ( Only we had to phone her when wasn’t there and was planning to show up at 5:30!) :-)   We ALWAYS meet at 12:00!)  ….but she got there and we had a lovely time and big discussion of the book Earth’s Wild Music: Celebration and Defending the Songs of the Natural World by Kathleen Dean Moore.    Another book about climate Action, but not from a scientist.  The author is a philosophy professor from Oregon who clearly is in love with the Natural World and has a cabin on a remote island in Alaska.    A series of essays on different species in trouble…all with the emphasis on the chorus that we are losing.   I used this photo as we were treated to a long song by the robin on the tip of that tree.    A different approach…No specific suggestions  (as there were in Hope Jahren’s The Story of More)  other than “stop the killing, defend what we have left, and learn to live in concert with the Earth.” It’s “morally right,”.   The descriptions were delightful and some familiar and the few statistics dire.. and I did enjoy the read but didn’t learn much.
So off we were with what else can we do…no airplanes or cruise ships, yes to electric cars even with problems, and all the small things we’ve been doing forever with recycling and plastic. Just keep on doing them. And talking. And hoping.
