On this day of the year, 13 May, in 1770, Captain Cook named Smoky Cape on the east coast of Australia. We visited it today, only realising when we arrived that it was the 253rd anniversary of the naming.

The lighthouse was built in the 1880s, designed by James Barnet. Who was the Government Architect of the day and is credited with a vast number of public buildings.
