Cailleach

At the beginning of April I blipped the studio of Leda May, an artist who had lived for many years in Ballydehob and sadly recently died. Today we went into Schull to look at her retrospective at the Blue House Gallery. It was fantastic. Not only was she an exceptional ceramicist but also a watercolourist and stained glass artist.  I especially loved this hare with her female face for in Celtic mythology hares are shape shifters, possible incarnations of the Cailleach - who is the wise woman, the creator goddess as cunning and as old as time.
