Farewell!

Nicely timed ferry so we didn’t have to rush to pack up, have breakfast and tidy up after ourselves. The forecast had said it would be warm and sunny but there was another haar until we were approaching Scrabster when the sun broke through. Another very smooth crossing and I read The Outrun as we travelled….I’m enjoying it now she’s back on Orkney after a big chunk of the start of the book was about her time spiralling downwards in London.
Very quiet roads and we zipped along through the gradually changing landscape….really noticing the trees!
After we left Thurso we went through another patch of thick mist for a while but then we were in warm sun most of the way….waved at Tain for Arclight and AlfThomas then stopped in at a lovely cafe in Kincaid where we enjoyed Italian speciality sandwiches in the 21.5 degree sun on their terrace, with flowers all around and a decorated postbox (extra).
Had to stop for a (very effective) micro sleep a bit further on, but otherwise a straightforward trip, listening most of the way to The Marriage Portrait by Maggie O’Farrell for our next book group.
We slumped when we got home and watched Ancient Capital of Orkney series on iPlayer that our guides had told us about. Enjoyed seeing all the places we’ve just been and hearing more about the archaeology.
