The Piagnaro Castle of Pontremoli

The Piagnaro Castle was built on the hilltop in the 11th century to protect the hamlet of Pontremoli below. We left Aulla this morning by train to avoid the predicted heavy rainfall. Unfortunately, we got off too soon, as the train windows were heavily painted with graffiti, so we could not see the station sign. Instead of waiting hours for the next train, we decide to bike the rest of the way, as the rain had ceased. Not for long. It poured. We sheltered in a cafe and bought bus tickets, but the driver would not take our folded bikes. We had to ride all the way. We arrived soggily to Pontremoli as the sun came out and brought blue skies.
