No-Mow May?

We are getting just a little bit concerned about the long lane leading to and dead-ending at our rental house...Our host apologized to us for the long grass along it when we first arrived, saying that the community would be  mowing it...Well, if he thought it was long then......duh! If there really is a no-mow policy around here, the sheep did not get the message! (extra)

It was one of those "wait-and-see what the weather's going to do" days, but we just gave up on that and ventured out for a short drive anyway - 4 kilometres down our road to the village of Bor et Bar on the Viaur river.

What beautiful country! Steep, heavily forested hills on each side of the  river valley (extra) along with huge open vistas, which unfortunately for me, the driver, are viewed only from the narrow road as it winds its way along the edge of one of those hills. Said road, by the way, has a speed limit of 90km - as do most roads around here no matter how narrow or winding!  This boggles my mind; the speed limit on our multi-lane freeways back home? 100km! Other major highways? 90km but some are often only 80..so this is quite a challenge for me! Keeping my eyes on the road and not on the scenery is an even harder challenge!

The village of Bor et Bar is in two sections..one up high, one down low with a total population of about 196. The one we drove through and stopped to admire on our way back home was Bar...a really charming little place with wonderful old houses - most of which have been beautifully renovated at what, I assume, would be great cost in light of the old run-down one we saw for sale! We met three friendly women and a dog meandering about -  a surprise, as usually we see no-one in these villages...and had a wee chat with them. We took photos of course, but I restrained myself from posting them as after a while, medieval village photos all look very similar ..arched bridge, church, castle, and lovely old houses; so, this time, for a change, the forest and river won out.

There really is a lot to see just in our local area which is good, as we can decide at the last minute after doing some chores, to dash out for a look around and be back home in time for dinner! Every outing does not have to be major excursion.

PS: We made the right decision to venture out this time - it never did rain!
