Chartwell

A really excellent day out at Chartwell to mark Susan’s birthday. Lovely weather. A walk around the fabulous gardens were beautiful especially the azaleas and rhododendrons. The view that stole the show was this of meadow, orchard and cottages containing Churchill’s studio.

After lunch we toured the house which we loved too. Not a stately home but a real home furnished as if the family had just popped out for a moment and would be back shortly.

A good evening rounded off the day. Fillet steak with all the expected trimmings was preceded by tapas and rounded off with brilliant birthday cake. Some gin was consumed I believe.

At home, the postman had delivered a letter and article from a long lost college acquaintance who I’ve not seen for decades. He sent me a letter and article about one of the lecturers who was very influential in my geographical education at Worcester when training to be a teacher in the 1970s.

Susan has asked me to thank you all for your birthday wishes. She was very moved.
