Today, 48 Finnish soldiers were laid to rest at the Lappeenranta Heroes' Cemetery, after more than 80 years. About 13,000 soldiers remained on the Russian side on the battlefield or disappeared during the Winter and Continuation War. The remains of about 1,500 of them have been brought to Finland so far.

It has been possible to maintain the search and identification work for the war dead in accordance with the state treaty between Finland and Russia to a limited extent on both sides of the border, but the current international situation has made it considerably more difficult.
