If you can't beat them...

Kingfisher

Having got the caravan packed we headed south down the M6.  Yet again we got proof that UK's roads are not fit for purpose.  We arrived at our site in Staffordshire by mid afternoon.   Having got everything set up we decided to have a run down to the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust Reserve at Wolesley.  Clickychick dashed into the cafe before it closed.   As we sat enjoying an icecream we were approached by a young woman who said "have you come to photograph the Kingfishers?"  Our reply was along the lines of "chance would be  fine thing".  So she excitedly told us they were being seen on the river.  Off we went to find lots of people and a good number of long lenses, the nearest ting to  a twitch I have been on.

Sure enough there across the river was the male Kingfisher perched in a bush.  Then it moved to a perch outside the nest hole.  Many shots were taken!  We stayed a long time taking shots then as the reserv e was due to close and the car park be locked we headed back.  On the way, we came across a couple of Common Terns.   The black tip to the beak distinguishes Common from Arctic when the beak is pure red.
