Out and About

Kendal's art gallery has reopened after several years of being closed for redevelopment, supposedly to make it more accessible to folks with disabilities.  I took along my partially sighted friend.  I was excited to find out what they had done following a previous visit in 2018, which its worth reading about here before you get any further. ................. So,  how had it changed? Was it now super accessible to people like my disabled friend? The short version is no. The lift to the first floor, that can only be operated by the staff, was still there, and finding staff to operate it was a challenge. The Blip is from the newly installed lift from the ground floor to the basement cafe, which was customer operated and hidden behind some doors- rather fun. However most of the short flights of steps were still there .
My friend was able to give them a lot of feedback on how to improve things for a partially sighted person.  We'll have to go back in a few months time to see if any of the suggestions have been acted on.
