Fun Day!

I belong to the Hardy Plant Society of Oregon and they host open gardens of their members every spring through fall. It's a fabulous way to see other people's gardens and a lot of fun. Today my friend and I went to see two open gardens - one was a cottage garden designed for pollinators and birds. The woman who owns it teaches in the Biology Department at Portland State University and is fascinated with the interaction of insects in her garden.

The other was Certified Backyard Habitat and had an absolutely exquisite Black Walnut tree in the back yard. The owner told us that it was at least 100 years old, if not more. It had been in disrepair when they'd bought the house 30 years ago and they had found an excellent arborist to care for it. Clearly it is a fabulous specimen! It has been classified by the City of Portland as a Heritage Tree.

Very fun day!
