Octopus on a Fence

Today I saw this old hat on a fence post at an abandoned farm. The elaborate design reminded me of octopus tentacles! 
The farm was one of several that had to be abandoned when the Burrator reservoir on Dartmoor was constructed. The abandoned farm with the reservoir in the distance can be seen in the extra.
