litl hikes

A later than planned start. We all needed an extra hour in bed.

We stayed in the local area today. First a train ride up to the next station and then we walked down through La Trétien where I could have spent ages taking photos of the buildings. We continued to the foot of the Gorges du Triège. I was much less confident than the others but made it to the top. The gorge would have looked more impressive with more water. The tunnel to the bridge at the top was closed . . . it looked like maintenance work was taking place. We walked back down through the woods. Then the little ones decided that they would like to take the train back down to our village rather than walking. It’s arriving in the photo.

We then spent a few hours at the zoo. It has animals that are (or were) native to the area including wolves, foxes, wild goats, deer, chamois, wild boar and mouflon. The bear and lynx must have been hiding as there was no sign of them in their enclosures. The man at reception gave us a bag of food for ‘animals with horns’. We ate our packed lunch in the picnic area and at the end the other three adults had a beer while I joined the children and chose a Toblerone ice cream lolly.

J+J did some shopping, E made tea and I played games with little E and N.

The chalet has just a grass path up to the garden and front door, grass areas that haven’t been cut with a variety of wild flowers and 4 beehives at the back of the garden. There’s a nice covered outside seating/dining area and gas barbecue.

There are a few photos from the gorge walk and zoo in extras.
