Contrasts in Norcia

We were up early enough to have breakfast and pack the van before 9. We headed for the nearby town of Norcia.

At first it was very sleepy and almost deserted. By 10 people started to arrive and more businesses opened.

This is a place where cheery shopkeepers stand at the doors and offer you samples. This lovely man offered cheese. Others were cutting slivers of local ham.

The earthquake did not devastate the town, mainly because few buildings were more than 2 stories high and many had a buttress around the ground floor.

However, there was a lot of damage and there are signs of reconstruction everywhere. Notice the boarding to the left of the main image.

I have added two contrasting doorways as extras.

Our journey to Rome was relatively straightforward. Finding the right way to the Kiss and Drop (sic) was challenging, but we had plenty of time.

My flight was delayed but we made up time. I was very glad to arrive at the Premier Inn and sleep.
