Bores and Boats

For a Sunday morning we were up and out again surprisingly early, but there were Boot Sale bargains to try and find.

The morning sun was already warm as we strolled around and took in the sights and sounds. We laughed at the exclamation of one lady as she reacted to the price of a car seat “£80!”, which in fairness did seem like a lot for a grubby used car seat.

We didn’t get much and decided to go back to the car before heading into Arnside. Herein I learned my first lesson of the day: don’t park a rear wheel drive car nose down on a sloping dry grassy field. The wheels spun and the car didn’t budge. With someone in front of us, there was no room to go forwards. One chap had offered to press down on the rear, but we declined for fear of running him over. It did give me an idea though, so I jumped in the boot to give the rear the weight the car needed to get some traction whilst LadyV applied just the right amount of throttle to get it moving. All very dignified. Ahem.

On arrival in Arnside we were informed that a regatta would shortly be starting, so we grabbed an ice cream and mooched around for a bit. Whilst we were waiting a tidal bore came in, which was fascinating to watch and a great reminder of the power of Mother Nature as the water surged in and within minutes had filled the bay. You can just about see it here…

The regatta itself was underwhelming and consisted of about five or six small old boats which took forever to get into the water and then seemed to faff around endlessly once they were in. We got a little bit bored at that point and then headed off home via a stop at Romneys for a Roast Beef lunch which was so good.

Shortly thereafter, LadyV gathered her belongings and headed home for chores and to prepare for the arrival of her girls.

I did a few of my own and headed out for a very slow, heavy and incredibly sweaty run in the early evening sun before settling down for an evening of watching the brutal finale to Succession.
