Too hot to handle

(backsie due to a lack of internet!)

This is a ground squirrel practicing heat dumping. I've only seen squirrels do it but I can't believe they'd be the only critters. It's a practice of spreading out on a cooler rock in order to release some of their body heat. Cute to watch. Gotta feel bad for them, though, if they're that hot to begin with.  Maybe when it's over 100F I can figure out how to dump some heat  :-)

The extra? A Scott's oriole. I wonder whether Scott's orioles are named after a person whose first name or last name was Scott?

For posterity and my love of numbers: Blip 4545. That's in a Zager and Evans song - third verse  :-)
