Day 4   A visit to the “Top of the World” at Jungfraujoch was on my bucket list and we were fortunate with the weather.  The highest railway in Europe goes for 9.3 km up inside the mountains travelling up from 2320m at Eigergletscher to the station at 3454m (11333ft) then a lift goes up another 117m to The Sphinx where scientific and environmental research is carried out.  There are great views of the Eiger (3970m) and Monch (4107m) and Jungfrau (4154m) and the Aletsch Glacier which is the longest glacier in Europe at 22km long and 900m deep. The second photo taken among the crowds on the ice terrace at the left of the third photo, shows the Sphinx with some tiny figures clearing snow off the roof of the station complex.  After journeying back down to t the Eigergletscher station it was a speedy trip by gondola beneath the huge towering cliffs of the Eiger back to the warmth of Grindelwald.
