Coquet Island

A lovely day out today - a trip up the Northumberland coast and the weather obliged.  Our first stop was Hauxley Nature Reserve where we did a walk and saw many birds on the lake.  We then travelled a bit further up the coast and had a picnic and crossed over the dunes.  The above picture was my first sighting of the coast and it looked stunning.

The island in the distance is called Coquet Island and in the spring it becomes home to over 35,000 birds including puffins.  We had a walk along the beach and it was virtually deserted.

After we got back into the car we decided to go to Amble which is a port a couple of miles further up the coast.  Tea and cake was consumed there as well as wander along the harbour and pier.  A really lovely day out.

I have attached a few extras of the day.
