Sizwe

I hadn’t seen him for a while but had kept in touch as he moved from student to employee. He has done well despite some health complications.

Sizwe’s disability is lymphatic filariasis, more commonly known as elephantiasis, which affects his mouth, one hand, both legs, and both feet. Not only is it painful but the disfigurements often result in social isolation.

Sizwe on the other hand is the youngest of a large family, and has always had their support when growing up. It is great to see his progress.

Otherwise, it’s been a day spent with the medical profession for me.

Gastroscope and colonoscopy scheduled for next week. Appointments with a neurologist, and an autoimmune specialist to follow.

I had hoped that this stuff was behind me, but it will be worth getting to the root of what is causing my gut issues, unexplained fatigue, and general malaise will be worth it.
