Blue poppy

Blue poppies (Meconopsis) are a speciality of Branklyn Garden, just along the road from us. Last year Mrs P's sister bought her three plants from the garden and we have been hoping they would survive the winter and flower this year.

So it was with some dismay that Mrs P discovered two days ago that the flower head of one had been broken off, perhaps by a deer or a dog. She brought it in, put it in a small vase on the mantelpiece and now it has opened.

Most Meconopsis are completely blue. This one looks purple in bright sunlight but looks blue in dim light.

I took a trip to Brechin today, to see the 90th Scottish International Salon of Photography. It's well worth a visit, and the exhibition continues until the 8th June.
