Kildare

Staying in Kildare town overnight. On the way there we stopped for linch in The Club at Goff's. A rave review in The Irish Times convinced us to try it out. Disappointing, to be honest. The place itself is just a shed in a field, and not at all prepossessing from the outside. The review had been for an evening meal, and perhaps that's better than lunch. Not sure we'd go back, though.

Our overnight stay was in The Firecastle, on the town's small but charming main square. What a find! The rooms are above the Firecastle shop and café, which was abuzz with customers when we arrived and checked in. The standard of the accommodation is superb, beautifully build and decorated and finished, with a view right across to St Brigid's cathedral which is next door.

Once settled in we headed out to explore the town. It's years since I've been there, but memories are fond. This return didn't disappoint. We tried a few pubs and ended up in a really nice one with great atmosphere. We spotted a Chinese restaurant across the street and made the mistake of going there for a meal. Woops! A great evening all in all.
