Water Feature

After dropping something off at a friend's I stopped on the edge of the housing estate and took this picture of a water feature built by the municipality while I was on the planning committee.
It's designed to both enhance the natural environment and to help prevent floods. The trees lying half in the water used to grow here, and are placed there to gently degrade and provide homes for small beasties.
You can see the outlet in the lower corner of the picture. The smallest trickle is flowing out so just now the pool is conserving water and providing moisture to all the buttercups and grass around. However, when it does rain heavily this trickle becomes a fairly large stream and if it rains too heavily the gardens of the nearby houses, and in the worst downfalls their cellars too, get flooded. This pond, and two more like it upstream act as buffers, storing the water and spreading the flow over a longer time-frame.
But mainly I took the picture because it's such a lovely spot.
