Poppies

Well, they are finally starting to open! A bit later than usual, but looking lovely all the same. The rain this afternoon did the garden a power of good. Little seedlings are starting to emerge from seeds which were sown weeks ago and were first wind blasted then baked in the good weather over the last few days.

Took the fleece off the peas and have now got flapping carrier bags on bamboo canes to keep the birds off then! The poor mesembryanthemums have been decimated by the sparrows - they have taken nearly all the leaves off them. They did the same last year - I'd forgotten that! The problem is that we feed them and put up nest boxes to encourage them, so we can't really complain when they develop a taste for cultivated plants as well!
