a lifetime burning

Afternoon delight

The large red damsels are still busily active on the garden pond, in the afternoon sunshine today.

Also active are the dragonflies.  There were two emergences of large varieties and two smaller dragonfly emergences.  The smaller ones were almost certainly common darters, as I came across the last just as it was ready to fly, and while I saw it only briefly, I'm reasonably sure that this is what it was. Somehow I've missed the other emergences, despite my checking the pond at 5:30am, 7:00am, 9:00am and 11:45am this morning.  Gutted doesn't describe it!
