Life through the lens...

View from the tower.

After a stop in Leyburn to visit our favourite wine shop. ......Campbell’s has the best wine selection in North Yorkshire, also a fabulous deli. butchers, and greengrocers.
( two bottles of French Rosé purchased)
We continued to Middleham and a visit to the castle.
A first for us although we have visited the town many times.

Middleham Castle was probably a motte- and bailey built in the 11th Century.
In the 15th century it was the home of several of the greatest lords of the day and was the childhood home of Richard III and his favourite residence.
After that time, when it fell into disrepair, the castle was robbed of stone which was incorporated in many Middleham houses.

The town is famous for its racing stables, said to have started with the horses bred by the monks of nearby Jervaux Abbey.
( extra of two horses in the stables, and a beautiful statue in the grounds of The Hall ( and stables) taken through the gates.

Also extra of a collage of the castle.

Later it just started to mizzle so refreshments were taken in one of the many pubs.

Back at the caravan we finished of the day with ‘ Pie Night’ at the Swan.
Weather has been warm and only a very slight shower, which we avoided, so all in all another great day. ( Wednesday 28June)

Sorry running a day behind, due to lack of internet.

Thank you for all your kind comments etc.
