New

A few weeks ago the pavement along a section of wall was cordoned off, and after no activity for several days a team of masons turned up and knocked through a whole into someone's garden, and over the past couple of days have built this nice doorway.

I walk past it every day to go to my mother-in-law's to collect her dog for his walk, so I've been watching the firm do the work. There are three of them on most days plus sometimes a young kid who's presumably the apprentice. They use an SDS chisel to remove the old mortar, then either  a water pressure washer or what looks like a big hairdryer to wash out the joint. They have been using piping bags to put the new lime mortar in, and then they finish it properly with a wire brush.

At the point I took this picture they'd built the new doorway, and started to repair the wall directly adjacent to it and above it. I'll have to take a picture when it's all finished and before the cars return to reclaim their space of the pedestrian pavement...
