Fish

A rather unpromising start to the day, dull and grey. Not cold though. We had already decided that we would go into the centre of Santander to see what it had to offer.
We took the bus. It’s quite a modern city, with many new buildings and lots of shops.
After coffee/ chocolate and churros we went to the cathedral. It was a bit underwhelming and we couldn’t go into the main part as there was a wedding going on.
Then we stumbled across a huge indoor market.Fresh fish on the ground floor with dozens of stalls all selling fish. The upper floor was fruit veg bread and cheese.
It very much reminded me of Oxford covered market if you’ve ever been there, but just with food.
After that we went to the Maritime museum. It only cost us €5 each due to our advanced age and was terrific value. The top floor houses a cafe where we had lunch , then downstairs a floor with displays about fishing and fisher people and boats, then  bottom level an aquarium. It was brilliant! Huge tanks lots of fish, interesting displays etc. we really liked it.
We had a sit on the beautiful sandy beach for a while then caught a return bus. Now we have to get ready for catching the ferry tomorrow.
I who don’t like sailing, am psyching myself up for a thirty hour crossing. Not looking forward to it.
