Coots' Nest with Luxury Garden Attached!

On 7th April I blipped this coots' nest being used for a spot of coot passion. Shortly after that we saw that they'd had two chicks but, then those chicks seemed to disappear so we fear that something adverse happened to them. For several days now we've seen a coot on the nest, so we assume she's laid another set of eggs and is hoping to hatch them. We hope it's not too late in the year: we'll certainly keep a lookout as to what happens. It now looks a very elegant nest with an attached "garden"!

In the extra: there's 2 or 3 other coot families on the lake with chicks which are quite big now, but clearly this particular parent coot decided that this mallard had got a bit too close to the little ones! No effort was spared in chasing it away!
