Scarlet Tiger

A cool, overcast morning surveying a very tall area of fen and swamp with some very sharp edges near Kettering - luckily I had Alex with me to help create paths through it  - he's tall enough to see over the vegetation! 

Highlight of the day was finding this beautiful and rather chilly Scarlet Tiger moth in one of our survey quadrats - such vibrant colours. I've seen this species before in a fen near Oxfordshire. and there have been a few sightings in the Peterborough area, but it doesn't seem to be properly established with us yet - I'm sure it's just a matter of time. It'd be great if it established in our garden - we have plenty of Green Alkanet which is one of the larval foodplants!
