Thank You For the Days ..

Along Bowmont Water

A nice day for a walk in the foothills of the Cheviots. We had to abandon it after a mile or so when we met a herd of cattle - cows, calves and unexpectedly a bull in the middle. He was clearly marshalling his tribe and making it plain that he didn't want us to get any closer. Maybe the presence of the dog made him anxious.

We went back to the village and spent some time in the Heritage Centre, learning about bondagers (female farmworkers) and gypsies ( the Scottish gypsies had their HQ here) : fascinating quilt made in the prison camp at Changi, and a surprising number of plane crashes in the surrounding hills. It's amazing the variety of information that exists in the most unlikely places.

R & J had a go at another walk in the afternoon, but we were lazy and caught up with our reading. And this evening we've all been for a meal at the local pub. In  a  moment we're off out into the dusk to see the bat detector in action!
