Thank You For the Days ..

Linton

Visited Linton Kirk, a few miles from Yetholm, this morning. I recently came across the story of the Linton Worm, a dragon of sorts, which terrorised the village in the days of yore, carried off the maidens, ate the children, slew the brave young men, until one, cleverer than the others, made himself a long, strong lance and killed the beast. There's no sign of the worm's lair, or indeed the village, now, just the church with a commanding view over the countryside from its position on the hill top.

It was open, so we went in. Though it dates from about 1200, it was massively restored and enlarged in the early 1900s. It is still used for occasional services, and is beautifully cared for.

The panel above the door (extra) is original, and some say it depicts the slaying of the worm.
