Flossmo

Big Pit Museum

The day dawned a bit showery so a trip underground at The Big Pit museum seemed like a good option. The views as we made our way to Blaenavon were magnificent, made more so by the dark skies.

We started out by being kitted up with hard hats and helmet lights before entering the down cage. Mr Flossmo definitely needed his as the roofs were quite low.

The trip underground was sobering. The guide explained about the use of canaries as early detectors of gas and the use of pit ponies to drag the coal drams to and from the coal face. It must have been a hard life especially when young children were sent to work underground. Thank goodness times have changed.

Back on the surface we decided to drive over to Abergavenny for a spot of lunch and a little mooch around the shops. I really liked the old fashioned art shop (extra), a dying breed.

Later I watched Cameron Norrie win his match at Wimbledon, let’s hope for more.
