A view from Jeanneb

Jimmy’s Place

or spot the ducklings!

A glorious day today but we had to be packed and ready to vacate by 11.00. We were well ahead of time so took a stroll across the harbour to The Lodberry. This building in particular is famous as Jimmy Perez’s house in the series Shetland.
It isn’t just his house though the whole 17th century area is known as The Lodberries. They are buildings that go out into the sea so that goods can be loaded and unloaded directly from boats. You can see more from behind in the extra taken from the harbour wall this afternoon.
The sea was wonderfully calm this morning and I chose this one as a family of ducks came into view as I was taking it. Three ducklings can you spot them?

Chris brought the car down to the pier so we could bring the bags down instead of hauling them up the hill. As we’d paid for an hour we went back to the Peerie Cafe and sat out side for a coffee.

We moved the car in to the car park for the Shetland Museum. A good display covering many aspects of Shetland life in a purpose built building. It was possibly paid for by money from the Sullom Voe Oil terminal. Much of that income has been used to benefit the community. I especially liked a temporary photography display of current day Fisherwomen by Craig Easton. It covered women working in areas around Britain in centres that used to work with the Herring Trade, particularly  along the east coast.  Had a cuppa and a cheese scone in the cafe before returning to town for a few last shops and then a sit beside the harbour in the sun to enjoy a last look.

Sad to leave but so pleased we came.

On the ferry now but the Wifi isn’t brilliant so I’ve just added one extra. Not many cars in but the whole of the Shetland Island’s games team, which is taking place in Guernsey this year,  is on board so every seat is taken. We have vouchers for food but the queue is massive.

Thankfully we have a cabin so can escape there!
