Friend or Foe?

I've been finding these bugs in my garden. My daughter loves them because they're so bright and they look like ladybugs. I'm pretty sure they're not lady bugs. They're at least 2x bigger than ladybugs and the markings are different.

I didn't find this particular one near my vegetables, but could this be the fiend that's been nibbling at my green beans and decimating my broccoli? Anyone know what this is?
