Newest Portugal
The day started with a 4.3 earthquake at 4:41am - bed shaking, cupboards & mirrors rattling.
Last day of the tour - a 7km walk around the Caldeira do Faial, not difficult but the wind, fog & rain made it more challenging.
We then visited Capelhinos which is a peninsula of land created by volcanic eruptions from September 1957 through to October 1958, therefore the newest piece of Portugal. Fascinating. And incredibly the lighthouse survived all the activity, and we climbed to the top.
Another couple of view stops, the last group photo then a farewell dinner with guide Tania. An amazing, energetic Azorean woman, who was the perfect guide when travel plans changed, people needed help or advice and a great sense of humour.
The first group trip I’ve done where *everyone* got along, they really did. Lots of laughs & good memories.
