The Strandline

The tangled mass which forms the strandline left behind by the retreating tide usually contains many natural and man-made objects. Today, one area of the beach was littered with cuttlebone, often referred to as cuttlefish bones.  Further along the beach huge piles of seaweed had been thrown up by the tide and provided a rich feeding ground for wagtails and rock pipits. In between there were small piles of seaweed and strands of weed draped across the rocky shoreline. These areas provide a rich source of patterns, shapes and textures.
