Some weeds are stunningly beautiful

African Tulip Tree (Spathodea campanulata) is common in our area. Native to western Africa, it can grow to 25m, and spread quickly. It has been widely planted as an ornamental tree in tropical regions. This one grows in our neighbour's property and hangs over our side fence. It's about 5m high, and growing vigorously. Its flowers are spectacular, but it crowds out other plants and, of especial concern, causes the death of native bees. Further north in Queensland it is a declared weed.
