Rail trail

A new rail trail has recently opened just north of us. It's the first stage of a proposed 130 km trail, using the route of the old Casino to Murwillumbah train line. The line opened in 1894 and was closed in 2004. The first rail trail section is 24 km from Murwillumbah, south to Crabbes Creek. It is very popular - usage rates are much higher than was anticipated. Today we walked the southern section of the trail, from Mooball to Crabbes Creek. We encountered lots of bicyclists and a few walkers. We plan to do the other stages soon. Some more photos are in the extra.

I've blipped about this old rail line before - in April 2021 and in August 2021.
