Winchelsea Beach

Mum and I decided to take advantage of the good weather and headed to the Kent and East Sussex coast. We started in Rye, one of tw0 towns which supported the ancient Cinque Ports, a historic series of coastal towns in Kent and Sussex originally formed for military and trade purposes.

Having satisfied Mum's need for window shopping, we grabbed a take away lunch from the local Deli and headed towards Hastings, ending up on Winchelsea Beach. The coast around this area comprises shingle and miles of sandy shore at low tide, which appears to be popular for shrimping with huge hand-held nets which are dragged along the waters edge.

Finally, we ended up in Hastings Old Town for a rather large ice cream each. As a child, this was a popular day out for us. We used to spend the day on the beach, and then wandered through the streets of the old town in the afternoon. The area was featured in the TV programme, Folyes War. Unfortunately, time has maybe not treated the area too well, and today it doesn't quite match up to our memories - it was still a pleasent end to our trip out.
