Chattanooga Chobham

My wife and I went to a concert by the Chobham Handbell Ringers at St Lawrence Church this evening. The main photo was taken during the group's rendition of Chattanooga Choo Choo which began with a very authentic sounding steam train whistle. Who knew handbells were so versatile! The extra photo was taken when the group played Under the Sea accompanied by bubbles blown by the audience from bubble tubes handed out beforehand. There were a lot of appreciative children in the audience as a school handbell ringers group from Weybridge were also on the programme (and were very good).  Chobham Handbell Ringers are long established and have performed all over the country and overseas. We have a CD of theirs somewhere which I really must look out and play as it's a musical treat to hear familiar classical pieces or popular songs interpreted by handbells. Watching the first night of the Proms when I got back, which kicked off with a full-throated version of the Karelia Suite by Sibelius, was certainly something of a contrast! Stirring music to move the soul.
