Napier - Day 3

It was a glorious day today - blue sky, sunshine and not a cloud in the sky.  I got a load of washing done and hung out on the line then we drove into Napier to see if Kathmandu had any merino garments in their sale, as I’m going to need plenty of warm clothes in Oamaru.  I was in luck and managed to buy a long sleeve T-shirt and a warm cotton/hemp overshirt.  Success!!  We then went to the restaurant at East Pier to meet six friends for lunch.  We used to go out with them a lot when we lived in Napier.  It was lovely to spend time with them and have a good long chat.  MrMacD and I shared a salad as we’ve also got a dinner with friends tonight.

After lunch we called two friends to see if they were at home.  They were, so we popped up to see them for an hour.  They’re special people and, even though we had dinner with them on Monday night, we wanted to spend some more time with them before we leave Napier tomorrow.  We inspected their garden then sat out in the sun and chatted.  It was sad to say goodbye to them.

When we got back home I brought the washing in and did the ironing.  Unfortunately, something seemed to go wrong with the iron, so I couldn’t finished the last item - a pair of our host’s jeans.  He seemed to think he might need a new iron.

We drove into Napier Central and met our friends at Kilim Restaurant.  It’s been in Napier for quite a while and is a very popular place.  We had a lovely meal and caught up with all our friends’ news.  It was great fun.  However, we were very sad when the owner came over to tell us that the restaurant was closing at the end of August and would re-open as a Burger Bar - no wait staff or dishwashers required, takeaway only and more time at home with the family for the owner.  We can understand his reasoning, but we are very sad that it’s the end of an era.

The collage shows scenes from Kilim as a memento.
