Holy Island

The forecast didn’t look promising but we headed off to Holy Island and by the time we got there it was sunny. Ruth loved it. We had a wander to the castle which has been repaired and is an incongruous pale colour which hopefully will weather. It’s now a holiday let.

We visited the lime kilns and the Gertrude Jekyll garden which was looking the nicest I’ve seen it. We ate the sandwiches I’d made on a convenient bench looking towards the priory. The crowds from all over the world continued to pour over the causeway - we left in good time for the 4pm tidal cut-off as the van was ready to be picked up from near Morpeth.

Over £400 for the service and to get the airbag unit fixed. Ruth loves vehicles and is thinking of getting her van converted so she came back with Mr C in the van and I drove the car back.

Luckily there was enough food left from last night so I had minimal cooking to do. We watched the news then sat on the terrace with a glass of champagne to toast the election results.

Ruth is leaving at 7 tomorrow to beat the rain. She has a low-slung Mercedes big sporty thing so it’s not nice on motorways getting sprayed.

Nathaniel had his last day at first school today. They are all ready for the holidays.
