Slavonian (Horned) Grebe on Nest

Today saw a marvelous outing again north of Funasdalen, to a broad valley well beyond yesterday's high point (975 m). This grebe (Podiceps auritus) was on its nest at a park where we stopped for lunch, at the edge of large lake. There was also a pond with many gulls nesting and flying around--especially little gulls, which I love and have otherwise seen only in Estonia several years ago.

Other notable birds included a group of exactly 16 long-tailed skuas (jaegers) which literally followed us along the road at the high plateau (our guides counted them several times). Also: red- and black-necked divers (loons; unfortunately not close); pied flycatchers, and a siberian jay.
