Field Trip

Monday is a teaching day - I teach Plant ID: Summer Annuals and Perennials at our local community college. Most of my students are in the Landscape Technology Department and are studying landscape design, landscape technology, or environmental landscape. I'm taking them on several field trips this summer - four to be exact - over the course of 10 weeks. Today we went to my friend Linda's amazing garden on Sauvie Island, just outside of Portland. She has 1 1/3 acre filled to the brim with edibles and ornamentals. And a lot of art and sculpture. Amazing garden, so inspiring! I'd never seen this plant before - it's called a Tiger Flower or Tigridia pavonia, in the Iris family. What a stunner!
