Eilean Glas Lighthouse

We went back to Scalpay today to visit the lighthouse.  It is very old . The dumpy little tower you can just see on the right was built in 1789 and a light from Scalpay has shone at sunset every day since then. It was one of the first 4 lighthouses built in Scotland with the red and white tower being added in 1824 by Robert Stephenson.  Lots of history on the Northern Lighthouses Board website. We did delightful circular walk from the car in the sun . One extra is the lighthouses from the end with a view of the dumpy first tower and the fog horn that was erected in 1907 but which no longer works. The second extra is Mr P on the coastal path back to the car.  Eliean Glas means light green island.
